Old Friend Revisited
The Bridge World I have been reading The Bridge World magazine since I first started playing bridge too many years ago to mention in fact, when I took about 11 years off from tournament play I still followed the game from the magazine. The Bridge World has long been considered the best magazine of its kind on the market, and now it has gotten even better. It seems as if each new editor has made improvements to keep the magazine fresh and up to date. When Edgar Kaplan and Jeff Rubens took over from "Sonny" Moyse, they added things like an editorial and "Challenge the Champs" (from a great old, but out of print magazine "Bridge Journal") and other new features. When Edgar died and Jeff took over the position of Editor and Publisher more things changed including an all new "magazine within a magazine" with the name of "Bridgeworks." Now the January issue brings a new size, which may take a little getting used to, that is more in todays mode. The quality of the material in The Bridge World has remained first class over the years and the current staff is probably the best ever. There is hardly a new idea or innovation in our game that was not brought to the public through its pages and that tradition continues today. The old favorites, such as "Masters Solvers Club" and "Test Your Play", are still top notch and there is no doubt that one can improve their game by reading the articles and features that appear in each issue. The Bridge World has also moved into the cyberspace age with a site on the World Wide Web. Their home page is http://www.bridgeworld.com and you can get an idea of what they have to offer by visiting their site |
